Plane Curves of Minimal Degree with Prescribed Singularities
We prove that there exists a positive α such that for any integer d ≥ 3 and any topological types S1, . . . , Sn of plane curve singularities, satisfying μ(S1) + · · ·+ μ(Sn) ≤ αd, there exists a reduced irreducible plane curve of degree d with exactly n singular points of types S1, . . . , Sn, respectively. This estimate is optimal with respect to the exponent of d. In particular, we prove tha...
متن کاملTerminal 3-fold Divisorial Contractions of a Surface to a Curve I
Let Γ ⊂ X be a smooth curve on a 3-fold which has only index 1 terminal singularities along this curve. In this paper we investigate the existence of extremal terminal divisorial contractions E ⊂ Y −→ Γ ⊂ X , contracting an irreducible surface E to Γ. We consider cases with respect to the singularities of the general hypersurface section S of X through Γ. We completely classify the cases when S...
متن کاملG2-monopoles with singularities (examples)
G2-monopoles are solutions to gauge theoretical equations onG2-manifolds. If the G2-manifolds under consideration are compact, then any irreducible G2-monopole must have singularities. It is then important to understand which kind of singularities G2-monopoles can have. We give examples (in the noncompact case) of non-Abelian monopoles with Dirac type singularities, and examples of monopoles wh...
متن کاملModular Compactifications of M 1,n I: Construction of M 1,a (m)
We introduce a sequence of isolated curve singularities, the elliptic m-fold points, and an associated sequence of stability conditions, generalizing the usual definition of Deligne-Mumford stability. For every pair of integers 1 ≤ m < n, we prove that the moduli problem of n-pointed m-stable curves of arithmetic genus one is representable by a proper irreducible Deligne-Mumford stackM1,n(m). W...
متن کاملGorenstein Threefold Singularities with Small Resolutions via Invariant Theory for Weyl Groups
A fundamental new type of birational modification which first occurs in dimension three is the simple flip. This is a birational map Y 99K Y + which induces an isomorphism (Y −C) ∼= (Y −C), where C and C are smooth rational curves such that KY · C < 0 and KY + · C + > 0. (Y and Y + should be allowed to have “terminal” singularities.) Mori’s celebrated theorem [22] shows that these flips exist w...
